Travel Books

Lonely Planet Costa Rica

Loney Planet is the classical travel book for adventurous and budget travelers. The maps and public transport directions in particular are very good.

Lonely Planet Central America

if you plan to travel sevceral Central American countries, this may be your good book. It contains the same information as the lonely planet guide about Costa Rica as well as all countries from Panama to Southern Mexico. Again, for backpackers, this is the guide of choice. Lonely planet's "How to get there and away" sections are still unsurpassed.

Only with the arrival of the banana companies did the coast get closer to the highland region and the capital San José: a railroad was built and the government began interfering with the local culture and lifestyle.
