Private bathroom, mini-bar, safe. Bar, restaurant, small pool. 1, 2 and 3 night-packages departing from San Jose. Transportation by minibus and ship is provided by the lodge.
Our Opinion: For a budget stay in the middle of nature. Canoes for individual exploration of the canals are offered for a small fee.

The pleasant lodge consists of 30 comfortable, spacious bungalows (with fans) built on wooden stilts, located on the edge of a quiet canal (Caño Penitencia). By the same owners as the renowned Pachira Lodge. Its beautiful tropical gardens are populated by monkeys and birds. The small pool, the quality restaurant, bar and many trips will contribute to a pleasurable stay. Kayaks, massages and canopy tours.
Our Opinion: From our personal view this is unquestionably one of the best lodges in Tortuguero. Excellent offers. To save time one might prefer to arrive or depart by plane.

This pleasant lodge now consists of 80 comfortable bungalows (with fans) built of regional woods. Its beautiful tropical gardens along the Caño Tortuguero canal are inhabited by monkeys and birds. Swimming pool, quality restaurant, bar, cordial reception. Many tour possibilities are available.
Our Opinion: One of the best lodges in Tortuguero with excellent benefits. We suggest booking your journey or departure by airplane (at competitive prices) to save time. One downside, however: with the lodge’s increasing capacity tranquillity is not always guaranteed…

This new, small unit is one of the most luxurious hotels in Tortuguero. The soberly and elegantly decorated rooms feature two queen size beds, a private bathroom, air conditioning, cable TV, mini fridge and a solarium. Restaurant with canal view, swimming pool, spa, fitness room, internet access.
Our Opinion: Very pleasantly situated on the banks of a remote canal. Good value for money.

Particularly ardent ornithologists will adore this lodge, sited at the foot of a mountain (Cerro Muchilla) and only accessible by 4x4. Small, extremely well maintained wooden houses were built in harmony with the surrounding pristine nature. Any comfort you need is provided for. Restaurant, many walking and horseback tours, and further sporting and nature activities.
Our Opinion: A very beautiful and wild place. The establishment is kept remarkably well. Particularly apt for nature loving adults. Calculate at least 2 nights.

Unpretentious, very pleasant lodge, located within 5 minutes walk from the waterfront and 2km from Cahuita. The 10 rooms (double, triple and 1 junior suite) are divided into 4 houses. Mini-bar, safe, fan, small terrace. Quality restaurant, swimming pool (8m x 17m), bar, parking space.
Our Opinion: The Swiss owner Dany will ensure a pleasant stay in relaxed Caribbean atmosphere. Good value for money.

Small Caribbean style hotel with family atmosphere, located 6km from Puerto Viejo on the beach of Punta Cocles. The hotel has 18 rooms, with fans or air conditioning. Bar, restaurant with a large "rancho" and many activities offered.
Our Opinion: A good, unpretentious low price address. The adjacent Playa Cocles is awarded with the “Blue Flag” for ecologically sound beaches.

AZANIA Bungalows superior, charming | ¢¢¢

A new, small and charming lodge (11 bungalows up to 4 people), set in a pleasant tropical garden, with a small pool, restaurant (Argentine and local specialties) and a bar. Located 3km south of Puerto Viejo, on the coastal road from Playa Cocles. All bungalows have palm roofs and simple, tasteful interiors from local woods. There are two rooms: 1 queen size bed below and one single bed on a mezzanine (accessible by rope-ladder – not recommended for children under 6 y.). Private bathroom (shower), terrace with hammock, fan, mini bar.
Our Opinion: The bungalows are well kept by its Argentinean owners. Certainly the best option in its category.

CARIBLUE Bungalows charming | ¢¢¢

This small and charming place is set in a nicely maintained, large tropical garden. 3 types of housing: standard rooms, the wooden bungalows and a villa for 7 people. The reception, bar and an excellent Italian restaurant are found under a "rancho". Parking places. The beach of Playa Cocles (at 300m) is one of the most beautiful on the Caribbean coast. Friendly reception.
Our Opinion: Clearly the best address in this region (excellent value)!

ALMENDROS Y CORALES superior | ¢¢¢¢

The camp-style lodge has a very original design with 25 large tent bungalows on stilts scattered in lush vegetation. Each room has a shower, a kind of living room with hammock and, of course, a bedroom. Cosy restaurant in a "rancho" hut. A pristine beach – perfect for playing Robinson Crusoe – lies around the corner! Nearby there is a canopy tour with 13 platforms.
Our Opinion: For an adventurous experience that will enchant the young… and the young at heart!

At about 10km south of Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean coast, this low-capacity lodge offers comfortable bungalows, spread in a tropical garden full with birds and flowers. They were built from natural materials in indigenous architecture with very original bathrooms. French-Spanish management. Good restaurant. Small pretty beach nearby.
Our Opinion: One of the nicest facilities in the region. The hotel's restaurant offers good food but its rates are a bit elevated.

3 Dutch owned houses with an astonishing architecture. Located on Playa Manzanillo on a large estate (10 ha) with direct access to the beach (300m of coastline). The originally designed houses were all built with natural materials and exotic woods. The high rooms are nicely penetrated by natural light. The “Tree House" houses 2-6 people, the “Beach House" and "Beach Suite" 2-5 persons. The owner also dedicated himself to the preservation of iguanas… Similar style and same property as "Casa Auratus" (2 rooms, 800 m from the Manzanillo village, up to 4 persons).
Our Opinion: Perfect for those who prefer personal housing to a hotel. An inventive place of real comfort. Playas Manzanillo and Chiquita are among Costa Rica’s most beautiful (they were awarded with the Blue Flag for ecologically sound beaches)!
